Hearts of Oak’s safest pair, Benjamin Asare, believes the Phobians are not too far from winning the title should they keep up their consistency and focus.
Hearts of Oak managed to secure a deserved 1-0 victory over rivals Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash of the Ghana Premier League matchday 22 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Phobians held on to Baba Adams’s first-half strike to pick up an all-important away victory with 10 men.
The win moves Hearts of Oak to third on the league log with 39 points, trailing behind leaders Medeama SC by five points with 12 more matches to honor in the 2025/26 campaign.
Speaking after the game, Asare, who scooped the Man of the Match Award with his sublime saves, underscored Hearts of Oak’s chances, adding it will take a determined and focused team to win the title.
“Yes, anyone can still win it. If you look at the top four or five teams, it’s all about determination on the field. If we continue to win our matches, we have a great chance.
According to him, beating Asante Kotoko has been characterized by aggression and focus in their remaining games, as winning the league will be a huge statement.
“Winning the league would be a huge opportunity for us, and I believe most of the players deserve it. This win today will help us be more aggressive and focused in our upcoming matches,” he concluded.
The two teams gave Ghanaians an atmosphere of good football; despite the numerical advantage on the side of Kotoko, it was Hearts of Oak who returned to Accra with the needed points to end Kotoko’s decade of dominance.
Hearts of Oak welcome Berekum Chelsea to the University of Ghana Stadium on match day 23, while Asante Kotoko will play as guests to Young Apostles in Wenchi.
