He says the challenges confronting the education sector are his utmost priority, which he hopes to fix by the end of his tenure as minister.
According to him, he will not sacrifice the role given to him as education minister for any ambition as being discussed in the media.
Speaking exclusively to TV3’s Roland Walker on New Day, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South was quizzed on what his focus was, considering NDC’s rebuilding agenda gathered momentum around himself, Julius Debrah, Ato Forson, and Asiedu Nketia as potential candidates to succeed President Mahama.
In his response, the lawmaker stated emphatically, “My focus is on improving and ensuring that there is inclusive equitable quality education, from basic to tertiary.”
He explained, however, that “my constraint and frustration have been my inability to garner enough adequate resources to support the dream and vision of the President.”
Mr. Iddrisu was confident of getting the needed support to realize the vision, hopeful about the economy, which is seeing improvement.
He noted that government is also on track to end the double-track system in senior high schools, stressing the GETFund’s role in getting it done.
“But I’m sure as the economy improves, allocation will also improve, and I think, for instance, there is a question of ending double-track.
There are about 100 to 200 schools; all they need is furniture to end double-track. The GETFund has the capacity to acquire that furniture and make that furniture available,” he added.
