Handball: Ghana to participate in Africa Zone3 U-18 Championship

img 0981The national female U-18 handball team left Accra today to participate in the Africa Zone3 Championship to be held in Cotonou, Benin.

The competition is in line with the International Handball Federation’s (        IHF) developmental programme for both players and the technical department of the game.

Therefore, the championship which is also a training tournament for coaches and umpires will have them certified after the competition.

Speaking in an interview with Awake Sports, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Handball Association, Mr Kofi Yesu, he said Ghana would be led by the national team coach George Bankole who would be assisted by Henry Nortey.

He added that Ghana would also take two young female umpires and a coach for the competition to be certified.

Prior to their departure, the Greater Accra Handball Association donated cartons of mineral water to the female U18 side.

It was received on behalf of the team by the Secretary General of the Handball Association Ghana Mr. Charles Amofah.

Mr Kofi Yesu urged the team to go and be brand ambassadors for Ghana and strive to achieve the ultimate saying “there should be cohesion among the players and the technical staff.”

The various players were selected from the just ended National Sports Festival organised by the National Sports Authority in Kumasi to represent the country.
