The Chairman of the National Hajj Task Force, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has confirmed that six Ghanaian pilgrims who died during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca suffered from underlying health conditions.
Addressing journalists, Alhaji Dauda stated that the Task Force has formally informed the families of the deceased and offered condolences on behalf of the nation.
Earlier on June 8, the Ghana Hajj Board announced that seven Ghanaian pilgrims had passed away in Saudi Arabia, five women and two men. While six were part of the official contingent, one individual traveled independently on a tourist visa.
“Those who passed were elderly and had pre-existing health conditions. It’s unfortunate, but it was Allah’s will,” Dauda said.
He added that the main group of Ghanaian pilgrims is expected back in the country later this month. Upon their return, the Hajj Board will discuss further steps to honor the deceased.
Special prayers were held in Mecca before the pilgrims were laid to rest.
