Hajia4Reall freed after serving one-year sentence in U.S.

Ghanaian socialite and singer Mona Faiz Montrage, popularly known as Hajia4Reall, is set to be released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons confirms that the 32-year-old has completed her one-year and one-day sentence. She pleaded guilty in February 2024 to conspiracy to receive stolen money and was sentenced on June 28, 2024.

Montrage was part of a West Africa-based romance scam network that defrauded vulnerable Americans. Authorities revealed that she received funds from about 40 victims through fake bank accounts in the U.S.

She gained popularity on Instagram with over 3.4 million followers. In May 2023, authorities extradited her from the United Kingdom to the U.S. Prosecutors said she lied to victims, claiming the money was for gold shipments, legal fees, or to help a fake U.S. Army officer.

Court records show she handled over $2 million in stolen funds. As part of her sentence, she must forfeit $216,475 and pay $1.39 million in restitution. She will also serve three years of supervised release.

Her lawyers say she plans to return to Ghana, rebuild her image, and contribute positively to society.
