Political science professor and Ghana Shippers’ Authority CEO, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has slammed the Akufo-Addo administration as the worst performing government in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Prof. Gyampo emphasized his independent stance, stating, “I have never been a supporter of any one political party, but I have voted since 1992, for both NPP and NDC.”
He recounted his political journey, beginning with support for former President Jerry John Rawlings, whom he voted for in successive elections. However, he later joined calls for Rawlings to step down, endorsing John Agyekum Kufuor as a change agent.
Gyampo also expressed admiration for John Atta Mills, and supported John Mahama during his first term, only to become disillusioned during Mahama’s second term.
“We chased him [Mahama] out with the hope that former President Akufo-Addo was going to be the messiah,” he said.
While acknowledging that the Akufo-Addo government began with promise, Gyampo believes it lost its way by 2020.
By the 2024 elections, he concluded that it had become the worst government of the Fourth Republic. “That is my view,” he affirmed.
Prof. Gyampo’s critique adds to the growing wave of public scrutiny directed at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the aftermath of Ghana’s 2024 general elections.
