Gov’t to scrap E-Levy and COVID levy in 2025 budget – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

In a move that could provide significant financial relief to Ghanaians, the government has confirmed plans to abolish both the E-Levy and the COVID levy in the upcoming 2025 budget, which is set to be presented on Tuesday, March 11.

The announcement, made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the economic challenges the country has faced in recent years.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Kwakye Ofosu reassured the public that the government was on track to fulfill promises made in the 120-day social contract, noting that the upcoming budget will reflect the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on the population.

“We are on course to meeting those promises, and when the finance minister unveils the details of the budget on Tuesday, it will show that we have kept faith with the people of Ghana,” he stated.

The removal of these levies, which have been heavily criticized by the public, marks a significant step in the government’s strategy for economic recovery and could bring much-needed relief to citizens grappling with the financial impact of the taxes.
