The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government will recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in 2025 as part of a broad plan to boost Ghana’s education sector.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, the Minister assured lawmakers that funds have been allocated in the 2025 national budget to support the large-scale recruitment drive.
His remarks also addressed concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who demanded an investigation into reports of teachers being manhandled during a recent protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) offices.
Haruna Iddrisu denied those claims and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to resolve outstanding posting issues and improve learning outcomes nationwide.
“I met Bafour Eric this morning, and he confirmed that financial clearance was issued in May. Although they were set to start in August, actual postings began in September. By December 31, the clearance had expired. A new clearance is now required, and I’m working on that,” he explained.
He added, “Mr. Speaker, as I’ve said before, 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff will be recruited. The necessary budgetary provisions have been made for this.”
