Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu

Ghana’s Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu says 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff will be recruited in 2025, with full budgetary support.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, the Minister assured lawmakers that adequate financial provisions have been made in the 2025 national budget to facilitate the mass recruitment drive.

Mr. Speaker, as I have assured this House, 50,000 teachers will be recruited, along with 10,000 non-teaching staff. Adequate provision was made for this in the 2025 budget,” Haruna Iddrisu stated.

The announcement follows concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who called for an inquiry into reports of teachers allegedly being manhandled during a recent protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters.

Minister Iddrisu addressed the issue by stating that he had already met with teacher representative Bafour Eric, who clarified that financial clearance for recruitment had been received in May. However, due to a delayed start in September, the clearance expired by December 31, and a new one is now required.
