Gov’t to reconstruct 5,000km of roads in 166 constituencies by 2028 – Ato Forson

The government has announced an ambitious plan to rehabilitate 5,000 kilometres of roads in 166 constituencies across Ghana within the next three years, as part of efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps nationwide.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement during the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 24.

“The government has identified 166 constituencies in dire need of road infrastructure. In response, we will rehabilitate 10km of roads annually in each of these constituencies,” he told Parliament.

The multi-year road development program aims to boost connectivity, stimulate local economies, and improve access to critical services in underserved areas.

Key Projects in the Road Plan Include:

  1. Construction of a new bridge over the Oti River at Dambai
  2. Rehabilitation of the Wa–Han, Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi, and Wenchi–Sawla roads
  3. Upgrading of the Tumu–Hamile and Akosombo–Gyakiti–Kudikope roads
  4. Dualisation of the Cape Coast–Takoradi and Winneba–Mankessim roads
  5. Reconstruction of major trunk routes such as Dodowa–Afienya–Dawhenya and Tema–Aflao (Section 1)
  6. Development of the Kumasi and Sungani Outer Ring Roads

Dr. Forson emphasized that the road construction agenda is a critical component of the government’s broader infrastructure and economic transformation strategy.

“This initiative is not just about roads; it’s about connecting people to opportunities,” he noted.
