The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has intervened to ease growing tensions at the Gold Fields Damang Mine following the expiration of the company’s mining lease on April 18, 2025.
During a visit to the mine, the Minister reassured workers and contractors that the government is fully committed to preserving jobs and ensuring smooth operations throughout the transition period.
With over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs potentially at stake, fears of a shutdown have gripped the local workforce and surrounding communities.
However, the Minister emphasized that the government’s priority is to support continuity, protect livelihoods, and strengthen operations, not disrupt them.
Ongoing discussions between the company and government aim to secure the best outcome for all involved.
