Gov’t injects GH¢40m into four emerging public universities

The Government of Ghana has allocated GH¢40 million in seed funding to support the growth of four newly established public universities.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced the 5th Congregation of the C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region on Saturday, June 21.

He revealed that the funds sourced through GETFund as part of the 2025 budget will be distributed equally, with each university receiving GH¢10 million.

“This government is fully committed to nurturing our young public universities,” Iddrisu stated. “This seed funding is proof of our dedication to building a stronger, more resilient education system.”

The four beneficiary institutions are:

  1. C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS)
  2. University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR)
  3. University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
  4. S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SD-UBIDS)

According to the Minister, the funding will enhance infrastructure, research capacity, and academic quality, part of a broader plan to expand access to quality tertiary education and meet the demands of Ghana’s evolving economy.

The announcement was met with applause from faculty, students, and dignitaries at the event.
