Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has squarely blamed the government’s failure to release critical security funds for the tragic killing of two students at Nalerigu Senior High School.
During a parliamentary debate on the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, the Ofoase Ayirebi MP said the government’s inability to adequately fund security operations is weakening intelligence-gathering efforts.
“This unfortunate incident could have been prevented if the government had prioritized security financing,” Oppong Nkrumah stated.
While the precise motive behind the attack is still being investigated, some local accounts suggest a potential link to the lingering Bawku tribal conflict. However, security officials have yet to confirm this connection.
In response, Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed also slammed the government, recalling the unresolved murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale and asserting that the administration has repeatedly failed to act, even when resources are available.
