The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is intensifying its crackdown on illegal gold smuggling with the launch of a dedicated taskforce in partnership with the National Security Secretariat.
Speaking at the 2025 Mining in Motion Summit in Kumasi, Chief Executive Sammy Gyamfi announced the move as part of broader efforts to safeguard Ghana’s mineral revenue and align the gold sector with national economic goals.
“The days of illegal gold trading and uncontrolled smuggling are over,” Gyamfi declared. “We will ensure Ghana’s gold is legally traded, exported, and the foreign exchange fully repatriated to support our economy.”
He revealed that the upcoming anti-gold smuggling task force will be a permanent fixture, designed to strengthen enforcement and eliminate illicit gold exports. Gyamfi issued a stern warning: “No one will be spared, every gold smuggler will be brought to justice.”
The GoldBod’s initiative aims to plug revenue leaks and reinforce Ghana’s position as a transparent and accountable gold-exporting nation.
