The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has held a high-level consultative meeting with members of the Licensed Gold Buyers Association as part of efforts to sanitise the gold trading sector and strengthen regulatory compliance.

The open forum, which took place on February 13, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), was aimed at reviewing operational activities over the past year and proposing reforms to enhance traceability, eliminate hoarding, and curb gold smuggling.

Addressing participants, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., commended licensed gold buyers for their role in the Board’s achievements since its establishment, noting that collaboration between regulators and industry players remains critical to building a transparent and competitive gold market.

He explained that the engagement formed part of GoldBod’s broader strategy to align stakeholders with new operational standards designed to ensure accountability across the gold value chain.

According to him, strengthening traceability systems will help track gold from source to market, thereby reducing illegal trade and safeguarding national revenue.

Mr. Gyamfi further stressed the need to eliminate hoarding practices that distort pricing and supply dynamics, while intensifying measures to combat smuggling, which continues to pose a significant challenge to Ghana’s mineral economy.

Participants at the meeting were given the opportunity to share concerns, propose solutions, and contribute to policy directions expected to shape reforms within the sector.

The consultative session is part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by GoldBod to enhance regulation, promote responsible trading, and maximise the economic benefits of Ghana’s gold resources.
