Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has criticized the state of Ghana’s film industry, expressing frustration over what she describes as the “wasting of great talent.”

In a heartfelt Instagram post on July 15, Sarfo compared Ghana’s struggling film sector to Nigeria’s thriving Nollywood, noting that while Nigerian actors work continuously, Ghanaian producers “struggle to even shoot one film in a year.”

“Honestly, if you’re in Nigeria as an actor, you’d realize you’ve really wasted your talent back in Ghana,” she wrote.

She called the situation “disheartening” and “crazy,” lamenting the decline of an industry that once held promise.

Sarfo said family and fans have often told her she’s wasting her talent in Ghana, and she’s increasingly recommending fellow actors to opportunities abroad, especially in Nigeria where support systems and film activity are more vibrant.

Sarfo urged stakeholders to take urgent steps to revive the industry and even suggested actors start producing their own films.

Reflecting on the past, she questioned how Ghana lost its lead in West African cinema and called for introspection and reform.

Gloria Sarfo is known for her role in Efiewura and her award-winning performance in The Perfect Picture: Ten Years Later.
