Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has described the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as the most powerful tool in the country’s fight against corruption.

Speaking at a high-level conference in Accra on Friday, June 6, themed “Revitalising the Anti-Corruption Architecture in Africa: Ghana’s Accountability Journey,” Mr. Agyebeng stressed that the OSP was created to address the deep-rooted failures of past anti-corruption systems.

“The OSP model represents our best bet in tackling corruption,” he said. “It is a unique and never-before-seen remedy designed to cure the inadequacies of the traditional methods we have previously adopted.”

According to him, the OSP is fully empowered to begin investigations and prosecute cases without needing external approval, a major break from the past.

He added that the office operates independently and has the legal backing to ensure transparency and fairness in all its activities.

Mr. Agyebeng also noted that the OSP is not limited to the public sector. It can investigate and prosecute individuals in both the public and private sectors, including politically exposed persons.

“For the first time in our history, the OSP forcefully carries the fight against corruption into public life and the private sector,” he stated.
