The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), has announced that Ghana received US$10,366,723.89 in manganese royalties payments for the first half of 2025 constituting a 257.52% jump from the same period in 2024.
According to MIIF, Ghana recorded US$2,899,620.88 of manganese royalty payments in the first half of 2024.
Manganese which is mined in Nsuta in Western Region has in recent years contributed roughly 2–3% of Ghana’s total mineral export income.
According to Ghana Chamber of Mines, in 2023, manganese export proceeds accounted for about 2.4 percent of aggregate mineral export revenue and about 2.7 percent of mineral export receipts in 2022.
Currently headed by Mrs. Justina Nelson as the CEO, the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) is Ghana’s minerals sovereign fund, was established by Minerals Income Investment Fund Act, 2018 (Act 978) as amended to serve as a strategic lever to maximise the value creation potential of the mining sector for sustainable national development.
The mandate of the Fund is to manage the equity interest of the Republic in mining companies and receive dividends from these equity interests, to receive mineral royalties and other related income due to the Republic from mining, and to provide for the management and investment of these funds.
