Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has launched ten Revenue Enhancement Teams aimed at improving revenue protection, operational efficiency, and ensuring sustainable water service delivery throughout the country.

The teams were officially inaugurated on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Accra by GWL’s Managing Director, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu.

During the ceremony, Mr. Mutawakilu highlighted the inauguration as a significant step in the company’s transformation efforts, emphasizing that it is more than just a ceremonial event; it demonstrates GWL’s dedication to financial sustainability, accountability, and enhanced service delivery.

He explained that the Revenue Enhancement Teams are tasked with improving revenue collection, reducing customer debt, identifying and regularizing illegal connections, verifying meters, correcting billing errors, and helping to decrease non-revenue water.

The decision to expand the teams from three to ten was made after a successful pilot program launched in August 2025, which achieved notable success in uncovering illegal connections and recovering lost revenue.

Mr. Mutawakilu mentioned that each team will operate nationwide and collaborate closely with the company’s commercial, technical, legal, and ICT departments, utilizing data-driven monitoring and customer engagement strategies.

He also revealed that the teams will work alongside National Security personnel to ensure staff safety during inspections and enforcement activities, following previous incidents where officers faced attacks while on duty.

“The teams are not intended to intimidate customers but to foster compliance, fairness, and accountability for the benefit of everyone,” he stressed.

The Managing Director took the opportunity to urge customers to pay their water bills on time, noting that the revenue collected is essential for water treatment, electricity, infrastructure maintenance, and service improvements.
