The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced plans to establish the Ghana Gold Village, a landmark initiative designed to make Ghana the premier hub for gold jewellery and ornaments in Africa.

Inspired by the renowned Dubai Gold Souk, the Ghana Gold Village aims to add value to Ghana’s gold production while showcasing local craftsmanship and driving trade across the continent.

Speaking at the ongoing Mining in Motion Summit in Accra, GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi emphasized the government’s commitment to President Mahama’s vision of transforming Ghana into a global leader in gold value addition.

“GoldBod is open to strategic partnerships to bring this vision to life. The Gold Village will serve as a hub of gold jewellery and ornaments in Africa,” Mr. Gyamfi stated.

Driving Reforms in the Gold Sector

Mr. Gyamfi also highlighted major reforms underway to enhance Ghana’s mining industry. These include:

  • Strengthening regulatory oversight
  • Tackling gold smuggling
  • Developing a transparent gold trading system

He celebrated a major milestone: for the first time in Ghana’s history, artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold exports have exceeded those from large-scale producers, a shift he described as “a defining moment” for the extractive sector.

“We will not rest on our laurels,” Gyamfi stressed. “Our goal is to do even more to benefit stakeholders and every Ghanaian.”

Call for Global Partnerships

The GoldBod CEO used the platform to invite international institutions and investors to join Ghana in building a responsible, transparent, and sustainable mining ecosystem.
