Ghana Scholarship Authority Holds Competitive Exams for Hungarian Scholarship Applicants

The Ghana Scholarship Authority has conducted a nationwide competitive examination for prospective beneficiaries of the Hungarian Stipendium scholarship programme, in what officials describe as a move to promote merit-based selection and enhance transparency in the award of government scholarships.

The exercise, carried out in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Civil Service Training Centre, brought together 3,810 candidates from across the country who sat for the assessment at various levels of study, including undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programmes.

According to the Authority, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to reform the scholarship award process to ensure fairness, equal access, and the selection of qualified applicants strictly on merit.

Director-General of the Ghana Scholarship Authority, who supervised the examination, stated that the process aligns with government’s broader policy direction to make scholarship opportunities accessible to all deserving Ghanaians, regardless of social or political background.

He further indicated that WAEC has been designated as the independent body responsible for marking the scripts to guarantee credibility, integrity, and objectivity in the evaluation process.

Officials say the new approach is intended to strengthen public confidence in the scholarship scheme while ensuring that national human resource development is driven by competence and academic excellence.

Candidates who participated in the examination are expected to receive their results after the completion of the marking and validation processes.
