The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as “Mahama Cares,” is operational and supporting the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) while investing in critical health infrastructure including state-of-the-art cardiology centres at across the country.

Mr. Felix Ofosu Kwakye, in a social media post, said the Fund was not only providing financial assistance to patients facing the high cost of treatment for non-communicable diseases but was also undertaking strategic infrastructure projects to enhance specialised care.

He cited the ongoing construction of state-of-the-art cardiology centres at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital as prime examples.

According to him, the cardiology centres, when completed, would be fully equipped with modern catheterisation laboratories, operating theatres, Intensive Care Units (ICUs), consulting rooms, pharmacies and dedicated oxygen plants.

He noted that the facilities were designed to strengthen the country’s capacity to manage cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases, which continue to place a significant burden on Ghana’s healthcare system.

The centres are expected to improve access to specialised cardiac care, reduce referrals abroad and ease pressure on existing facilities.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund forms part of broader efforts to expand access to quality healthcare and enhance the country’s medical infrastructure to meet growing demand.
