Former Ghana international, Charles Taylor, has reaffirmed that the country is endowed with abundant football talent, stressing that identifying gifted players is never a challenge.
However, he says there are no good coaches to nurture these players into world-class ones.
Ghana undoubtedly is regarded as the second country on the African continent that exports the most number of players to Europe behind their West African neighbors Nigeria.
Despite all these, it’s very hard to see these Ghanaian nationals playing the game at the highest level with fewer than thirty players currently in the European top five leagues.
Speaking to Sporty FM Sports Drive, the ex-Hearts of Oak and Kotoko star has described them as lazy and believes they never learn and grow on the job, making it very difficult to have young players adequately prepared for the international challenge.
“Ghana has talented players, but coaches are lazy. They are not polishing players.”
Taylor enjoyed a stellar sixteen-year career where he further featured for clubs like Great Olympics, Étoile du Sahel, Enugu Rangers, and Berekum Chelsea.
He made sixteen appearances for the Black Stars and also played in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying games.
