Parliament has ratified visa waiver agreements with four countries, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica, to enhance diplomatic and economic cooperation.
The deal, approved on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, allows holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports to travel visa-free between Ghana and these countries.
Presenting the report in Parliament, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, said the agreement would boost collaboration in sectors such as education, energy, trade, tourism, and agriculture.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured lawmakers that the visa waivers would not lead to any immediate revenue losses, emphasizing that the long-term economic benefits outweigh any short-term costs.
“These agreements will strengthen bilateral relations, increase trade and tourism, and open doors for more collaborative development opportunities,” Ablakwa stated.
The move marks a significant step in Ghana’s effort to expand its global partnerships and improve ease of travel for its citizens and those of partner nations.
