Gbande calls for arrests of Afenyo-Markin and others over missing ECG containers

The disappearance of more than 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port has triggered a demand for urgent action.

Accusations have been leveled against key figures in the sector, with Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, calling for the immediate arrest of former ECG Board Chairman Alexander Afenyo-Markin, former Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and former ECG CEO Samuel Dubik Mahama.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Gbande stressed that corruption of this magnitude must be confronted head-on, urging swift legal action.

He emphasized that those responsible for the missing containers, which are believed to hold valuable equipment such as cables and transformers, must be held accountable.

An audit revealed a shocking discrepancy in ECG’s records. While 2,491 containers were initially reported as uncleared, only 1,134 were found, leaving over 1,300 containers unaccounted for.

This loss has sparked outrage and calls for a full investigation into the matter
