Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of failing to deliver meaningful economic results during his presidency.

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Gbande criticized Akufo-Addo for presiding over an era marked by the consistent depreciation of the cedi and weak fiscal leadership.

“The only reason the dollar was high was because of former President Akufo-Addo’s foreign accent. And President Mahama has a local accent, so his priority is Ghanaian,” Gbande said sarcastically, suggesting that the previous government’s policies were detached from the realities of ordinary citizens.

He attributed the cedi’s recent appreciation to the current administration’s policy direction under President John Mahama, asserting that it reflects more competent economic management.

Gbande’s comments form part of the NDC’s ongoing efforts to draw a clear line between Mahama’s leadership and what they describe as the elitist and disconnected governance style of the former president.

He claimed that under Mahama, the economic focus has returned to local needs and practical solutions rather than foreign image and rhetoric.
