Indigenes of the Aboabo community within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality in the Western North Region have endorsed the activities of illegal mining that have over the years ruined vast stretches of farmlands, plantations, major river bodies, and the Anhwiaso East Forest Reserve.
According to them, the illegal miners are doing well in addressing the developmental problems in the area, citing numerous unsuccessful attempts by the government to develop the area.
Residents of Aboabo, one of the communities lacking behind developmental projects, expressed their unwavering support for the miners, adding that their infrastructural needs are being addressed, even though they know the adverse effects of the destruction of the mining activities.
They argued that the illegal miners continue to solve and fix the infrastructure deficit in the communities, which ought to be a substantial government intervention.
Some concerned residents who are against the alleged activities of galamsey have urged the police to intervene because water bodies and farmlands are on the full scale of destruction.
