The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested some five Chinese illegal miners along the Birim River at Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.
NAIMOS raids the illegal mining sites along the Birim River today, Monday, 29 December at about 1340 hours.

The team has conducted a series of raids on illegal mining sites at Akyem Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.
The raids led to the arrest of five (5) suspects who were actively mining and washing into the Birim River.
Two excavators found at the site were immobilized. One Toyota Hilux pickup and another Toyota Land Cruiser used by the arrested Chinese illegal miners were seized by the task force.
Several makeshift structures erected at the sites were destroyed, along with some water pumping machines and other mining equipment.
NAIMOS continues its crackdown along major water bodies during the festive season to prevent further pollution.
