The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has condemned the conduct of the Assembly Member for the Effiakuma West Electoral Area following the circulation of a viral video that has sparked public concern.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Association, its National President, Mr. Frank Ackah Nelson, described the incident as unfortunate and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of Assembly Members across the country.
The Association stated that persons elected to represent their communities must demonstrate discipline, integrity and professionalism in both public and private life, as their actions have a direct impact on public confidence in the local governance system.
Mr. Ackah Nelson stressed that GAAM does not condone any behaviour that undermines the dignity of the office of an Assembly Member or brings the Assembly institution into disrepute.
He called on members nationwide to desist from acts that could tarnish the image of the Assembly system, reminding them of their responsibility as role models and agents of grassroots development.
The National President indicated that the Association would cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure that due process was followed in addressing the matter.
He also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations continued.
The statement reaffirmed GAAM’s commitment to promoting ethical leadership, discipline and responsible representation within the local government framework, adding that any member found culpable after investigations would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the Association’s regulations.
