Private legal practitioner and former MP for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has criticized suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for addressing the media amid her ongoing impeachment proceedings.

Justice Torkornoo, currently facing an Article 146 inquiry into alleged misconduct, held her first press conference since her suspension. At the event, she raised concerns about threats to her safety and claimed the process had been procedurally flawed.

However, Inusah Fuseini believes her actions were inappropriate for someone in her position. Speaking on Channel One’s Newsroom, he said the suspended Chief Justice should have relied on legal channels, not public commentary, to address her grievances.

“If a person believes their right to a fair hearing under Chapter 5 has been violated, the appropriate forum is the High Court, not a press conference,” he stressed. “Least of all should such conduct come from the Chief Justice herself.”

Justice Torkornoo was suspended on April 22, 2025, after President John Mahama, acting on a prima facie determination in consultation with the Council of State, activated the impeachment process.

Fuseini warned that taking the matter to the public risks undermining the integrity of the constitutionally mandated procedure.
