Friday and Monday declared public holidays

The Ministry of the Interior has officially announced that Friday, April 18, 2025, and Monday, April 21, 2025, will be observed as statutory public holidays across Ghana in commemoration of Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.

In a statement issued and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), the public was reminded of the significance of the Easter period, which is one of the most important events on the Christian calendar.

Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while Easter Monday is observed as a continuation of the resurrection celebration.

“These holidays are to be observed as such throughout the country,” the Minister emphasized in the release dated April 14, 2025.

The Easter holidays provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to reflect, worship, and spend quality time with family and loved ones.

It is also a period that sees heightened travel and tourism activities, particularly to religious and recreational sites.

As tradition holds, many churches across the country will hold special services, vigils, and community outreach events to mark the death and resurrection of Christ.

Meanwhile, public agencies, businesses, and transport operators are preparing for the expected rise in human movement during the holiday weekend.

The government has also urged the public to observe the holidays peacefully and responsibly, calling for safe travels and respect for public order.

This year’s Easter break will grant workers and students a four-day weekend, with normal work and academic activities expected to resume on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Ghanaians are encouraged to take advantage of the break not only for relaxation and religious reflection but also to contribute to community unity and national peace.
