The Black Princesses of Ghana played out a 2-2 draw with South Africa in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Ghana made a strong start to the match, with Agnes Yeboah and Linda Owusu Ansah scoring to give the home side a 2-0 advantage.

The Black Princesses controlled much of the game and looked set to secure a comfortable lead going into the return leg.

However, South Africa mounted a comeback after Ghana lost momentum, scoring twice to level the tie and leave the contest finely balanced.

The result is a setback for Ghana, who had hoped to take a clear advantage into the second leg after their convincing aggregate victory over Tunisia in the previous round.

South Africa, which eliminated Eswatini in the previous round, will now be confident heading into the return fixture.

The second leg is scheduled for February 14, with Ghana needing a disciplined performance away from home to keep their hopes of qualifying for the tournament in Poland alive.
