The 2006 year batch of the Accra Academy School has honored Ghanaian and FIFA Referee Daniel Laryea for his outstanding contribution to football and global growth.

He was given a hero’s welcome, parade, and plaque in his honor to celebrate global excellence among its alumni and to inspire current students with real-life examples of dedication and impact beyond borders.

Laryea was the only Ghanaian referee to officiate at the 2026 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco earlier this year and the first Ghanaian referee to handle an AFCON semi-final match since 1972.

The former Accra Academy goalkeeper recently officiated the semi-final clash between Morocco and Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The milestone underlines his steady rise within African football officiating and cements his status as one of Ghana’s top-rated referees.

From defending the post during his school days to commanding high-stakes encounters with authority and composure, Laryea’s journey reflects discipline, resilience, and excellence.

Over the years, he has consistently represented Ghana with distinction at major competitions, earning plaudits for his fitness, decision-making, and firm control of matches under intense pressure.
