FDA urges public to put food safety first during Easter

The FDA’s Central Regional Director, Ms. Francisca Anokye, has issued a stern warning to the public to prioritize food safety when purchasing products during this period.

Ms. Anokye emphasized the importance of scrutinizing every pre-packaged product, particularly checking expiration dates to avoid consuming spoiled or expired goods.

When it comes to canned products, she advised consumers to inspect the packaging for signs of rust, corrosion, or damage, ensuring the contents are safe for consumption.

The FDA is also urging Ghanaians to be mindful of their surroundings when consuming ready-to-eat foods, verifying that eateries have obtained the necessary food hygiene permits.

This proactive approach aims to prevent food-related diseases and promote a healthy lifestyle.

According to Ms. Anokye, ensuring food safety is a collective responsibility that requires collaboration between the FDA and the public. The Authority has laid down measures to guarantee food safety, including market surveillance and other activities.

In a bid to enforce food safety regulations, the FDA has cautioned traders against selling prohibited goods, particularly expired and contraband items, warning that those found flouting the law will face the full force of it.
