Black Stars goalkeeper’s trainer Fatau Dauda has lauded the leadership qualities and performance of Hearts of Oak’s safest pair, Benjamin Asare.
Asare was one of Ghana’s most consistent players en route to sealing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, keeping the post in six games, keeping five clean sheets, and conceding one goal.
His output at the national level is a true reflection of what he offers at club level for Hearts of Oak, with his most recent performance being the Ghana Premier League Super Clash between rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
The Hearts of Oak skipper showed grit and calmness in post as he commanded his backline with sheer confidence, climaxing the day with the Man of the Match Award.
Though some believe he has not proven enough to be Ghana’s number one ahead of the World Cup, Fatau has different thoughts, saying the former Great Olympics man deserves all the credit for his performance despite being criticized.
“He’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticized if things are not going well.” Fatau stated.
Fatau praised his ability to adapt and learn very fast, urging Asare to stay focused so he keeps his consistency for himself and his club.
“That’s how it should be. But for now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He talked to me, listening. So he’s a fast learner; he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him. He’s doing well for his club and for himself,” he added.
Asare has been included in Ghana’s squad ahead of the World Cup friendlies, according to reports.
Ghana will face Austria, Germany, and Mexico in March and May, respectively, as part of the team’s preparations for the Mundial in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
