FABAG urges nationwide price cuts as sugar and rice prices drop

The Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) says prices of key commodities are starting to fall, with further cuts expected soon.

At a stakeholder meeting with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, FABAG’s Executive Secretary John Awuni announced a 7% drop in sugar prices and a 10% correction in rice prices.

“We are aggressively pushing prices down,” Awuni said. “But others in the supply chain aren’t responding.”

He called for a national campaign to ensure the price drops benefit everyday consumers. “This must be a national effort. If everyone adjusts prices, Ghanaians will feel real relief,” he added.

Dr. Forson praised FABAG’s initiative and encouraged other trade groups, including the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), to follow suit.“The cedi is improving, and inflation is slowing,” he noted. “It’s time businesses reflect these gains in their pricing.”

FABAG’s move comes as the government promotes economic stability and urges private sector support in reducing the cost of living.
