Explosion at Konongo mining shops kills 3, several injured

A devastating explosion rocked the mining town of Odumase, near Konongo, in the Ashanti Region, killing three people and leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake.

The blast, which occurred at a shop selling mining explosives, injured several others, including firefighters.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and outrage, with many calling for stricter regulations on the storage and handling of explosives in residential areas.

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion resulted from illegally traded dynamite, highlighting the dangers of illegal mining activities and the unsafe handling of explosives.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, after visiting the affected community, has directed the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, and other relevant institutions to clamp down on the illegal sale of mining explosives.

In response to the tragedy, a team led by Dr. Amoakohene visited the affected area to extend support to the victims and their families.

On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the team provided cash donations to households that suffered significant losses and assisted hospitalized victims with medical care and recovery.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has also been instructed to mobilize emergency relief efforts for affected individuals and families.

The security services have been tasked with expediting investigations into the incident to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.

The Ashanti Region Security Council, led by Dr. Amoakohene is working closely with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.
