The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, is set to swear in Ewurabena Aubynn as the new Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North today, following her narrow victory in the recent parliamentary rerun.
Aubynn, who ran on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won the rerun election with 34,090 votes, edging out the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie by just 209 votes.
The rerun was conducted after the Electoral Commission (EC) nullified the December 2024 parliamentary results due to irregularities, including unsigned pink sheets and discrepancies during collation. Voting was repeated in 19 affected polling stations.
With Aubynn’s induction into Parliament, the NDC now secures a two-thirds majority in the 275-seat House, significantly enhancing its legislative strength.
This majority could prove pivotal for constitutional amendments, policy reforms, and other key decisions requiring a supermajority.
The swearing-in ceremony, expected to draw NDC leadership, MPs, and dignitaries, signals a milestone in the party’s 2025 legislative strategy.
