EPUC Leaves PUSAG Without Medals

The Evangelical Presbyterian University Ho, leaves this year’s PUSAG games without their winners’ medals. The Private University Student’s Association Ghana organizes annual games and entertainment for all private universities and this year’s event is currently underway at the Paa Joe Stadium- KNUST Kumasi and scheduled to end Friday 6th April, 2018.

The after failing to participate in last years event held at Cape Coast, [ads1]EPUC made it to this year’s event amidst dire financial challenges.

Before the contingents boarded the bus to Kumasi, they were made to understand that the school is handicapped and could only release Ghc 10.000 for the trip, an amount woefully inadequate.

According to our reporter, the teams got to Kumasi on Sunday and started the games on Tuesday. Though the soccer team failed to go beyond the group stages, the handball teams (men and women) won gold and silver respectively.
The contingents, in a jubilant mood, were later informed by the SRC President Mr. Frank Kottey and the management committee that they can’t stay and receive their winners’ medals and other honours.

“As at now we’re not able to pay our capitation fee as participants. And today, the executives on numerous accounts attempted preventing us from taking part in the competition.

“I had to write an undertaken before we were allowed to continue with the games.

“What makes things worse is that, our accommodation is due to expire tomorrow (Thursday) and we don’t have money to even renew it. So, therefore, we have no option than to pack our things and go back to Ho”…he added.

The message sent waves of anger through the players, many of whom said they won’t represent the school in any sporting event again, arguing that as students, they pay sports levy so it’s difficult to accept the school’s unfair treatment being meted out to them.

Meanwhile, the medals would not be released to the school unless the SRC is able to clear the outstanding capitation fee.
