Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deploy 200 new transformers in major cities. This move aims to resolve recent power cuts and improve electricity delivery nationwide.
The directive follows weeks of intermittent blackouts. It also reflects the government’s strategy to upgrade infrastructure to meet growing demand.
Speaking at the 2025 West African Mining and Power Expo (WAMPEX) in Accra on Wednesday, May 28, Jinapor said Ghana’s overall power generation remains stable.
“Despite the challenges we inherited, power generation has been steady. We’ve even resumed exporting electricity to neighboring countries,” he said.
He stressed that improving the transmission and distribution networks is now the priority.
“I’ve approved the immediate installation of 200 transformers in key urban areas. This will help ensure efficient delivery of power to consumers,” Jinapor added.
He assured the public that his ministry is working with ECG to address infrastructure gaps and maintain a reliable energy supply for homes and businesses.
