Elis International School emerged winners of the Jubisco Football Tournament after a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over defending champions Jubilee Academy and Computer School over the weekend.
Put together by Sir Moses Seyram Avadetsi, a Unit Committee Member in the Mantseman Electoral Area in Ashaiman and Jubilee Academy and Computer School, the two-day event, which ended on Friday, March 13, saw six schools compete for honors.
The 10th edition was aimed at keeping learners briefly away from the classroom and creating a platform for them to showcase their talents and dexterity in football and also promote unity among schools in Ashaiman and beyond.
It was a much-anticipated final, as Jubilee Academy were keen on retaining their title, having won the competition for a record seven times against Elis School, a two-time finalist.
The crucial moment was decided in the extra minutes in the second stanza, when the skipper of Elis School, Aaron Narh, scored the most decisive goal to win the first silverware for Elis.
In the girls category, Calvary Schools defeated Saviour School via penalties.
The event ended with Aaron Narh of Elis School being adjusted to the top scorer with two goals as the player of the tournament.
Fellow compatriot Agbovor Lawrence was awarded the best goalkeeper, as both teammates were awarded trophies for their outstanding performances.
For his tremendous contribution towards sports development, community leadership, and youth activism, a citation was presented to community leader and Unit committee member Sir Moses Seyram Avadetsi.
