Eleven Ghanaian students expelled from UK universities; facing deportation

About eleven Ghanaian students on government scholarships have reportedly been withdrawn from their universities in Birmingham, United Kingdom (U.K.), due to failure to meet their fee payment obligations.

This was revealed by Samson Lardy Anyenini, a renowned media and legal practitioner, during a media encounter with the Vice President and flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Sunday, August 25.

According to Anyenini, the government’s failure to fulfill the students’ scholarship obligations led to their withdrawal from the institutions.

The journalist added that the eleven withdrawn students are currently facing deportation threats.

“In Birmingham, 11 of them have already been withdrawn and they are facing deportation,” Mr. Anyenini said.

Meanwhile, other students in the U.K. are also on the verge of being expelled for the same reason. According to the journalist, some of these students have not received their stipends for almost two years.

“For some of them, for 20 months, they haven’t received their stipends. In a number of universities in the U.K., in Warwick, Coventry, Northingham, they [students] are under threat of loosing their studentship,” he indicated.
