Election 2024: no Supreme Court, we’ll settle matters at polling stations – Zeinab endorses Ofosu Ampofu

A Member of the National Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Zeinab Alhassan has seconded the NDC Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofu that the NDC will settle every electoral-related issue at the various Polling Stations.

According to the NDC Chairman, the NDC will not be ready to go to the Supreme Court to settle any election-related matters in the 2024 election.

In a Facebook post, Zeinab Alhassan re-eachored:

2024 elections, the matter will be settled at the polling station. No Supreme Court biaa!!!

The just ended 2020 elections and the Supreme Court election petition case came with so many disturbances and disagreements.

The elections were mad with allegations of rigging and intimidation of members of the opposition NDC, eight people were shot and killed by persons in security uniform during the vote counting and collation exercise.

The current 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu said the people who were shot and killed were criminals.

Feeling unjustly treated at the polls, the National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, former President John Mahama filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the results declared by the Electoral Commission asking the Apex Court to order for a rerun of the Presidential Election.

The NDC and former President Mahama told the Court that the Electoral Commission led by Jean Mensa has six different results of the same Presidential Election and therefore wants Jean Mensa to mount the witness box to explain how the Commission came by those six figures. However, the Court ruled in favor of the Electoral Commissioner who said she will be mounting the witness box to testify after the Court had also refused the petitioner’s request to serve interrogatories on her.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition, a decision the former President said he disagreed with the Court processes and the ruling.

Events at the Supreme Court made so many members of the NDC feel justice was not served them at the Apex Court hence sending signals any dispute in the next 2024 election will be settled at the various polling stations.
