Effutu NPP denies busing in soldiers to transfer votes to the constituency

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Effutu has denied claims by the NDC that the incumbent MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin is attempting to manipulate voting in the area through the illegal transfer of votes.

Earlier, the NDC Central Regional Chairman, Professor Kofi Asiedu alleged that the MP bussed in 71 soldiers to transfer their votes to the constituency. He claimed the party had the list of names and warned the EC to expunge the names from the register or face the party’s wrath.

But in a press conference, the NPP denied the allegation, stating that only indigenous people who left the constituency are transferring their votes back. The statement said the 71 soldiers’ claim is a falsehood.

NPP’s Communications Officer for Effutu, Ellis Otabil said, “We want to set the record straight that whoever comes to Winneba to transfer his votes is either an indigene or native of Effutu and students alike are those who are transferring their votes to Effutu. Workers who have been transferred and are staying in Winneba are those who have transferred their votes to Effutu and therefore it wouldn’t lie in his mouth to send warnings to them that they cannot transfer their votes to vote democratically.“

Ellis Otabil reiterated that the NDC is resorting to the use of violence to intimidate voters engaging in the transfer process and cautioned them to desist from it.

“We have seen that the NDC in Central Region has a grand scheme to intimidate would-be voters who are transferring their votes to various constituencies to be part of the 2024 general election. We are sending a strong warning to the NDC that they cannot intimidate anyone in Effutu, they cannot resort to violence,” Ellis Otabil warned.
