The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed that 10,000 sanitary pads donated by Softcare FM Manufacturing Limited be given to Christian Methodist Senior High School to support female students.

The Minister made these remarks on Wednesday during a visit to Sunda Group, producers of softcare sanitary pad.

Speaking to Journalists, the sector minister says government has reaffirmed its commitment to ending period poverty through the Free Sanitary Pads Programme.

He mentioned that 12 million pads were procured last year to support female students and ensure uninterrupted learning.

He added that, he has launched a comprehensive audit of sanitary pads supplied in 2025 under the Free Sanitary Pads Programme.

Mr Iddrisu revealed that it follows concerns raised by the Consumer Protection Agency over the poor quality of some products.

“I have asked a team of auditors to go around the schools and do an audit of the quality of some of the sanitary pads that were supplied, because I received concerns from the Consumer Protection Agency of Ghana as to some poor quality of some of the sanitary pads that were supplied last year,” he said.

Mr. Iddrisu stated that he is currently reviewing the assessment report and will advise the government on the appropriate course of action moving forward.

The Free Sanitary Pad Distribution Programme was officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama in April, 2025, to provide free sanitary pads to over 2 million girls in primary and secondary schools nationwide.
