The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) plans to fix most localised power faults in Accra by the end of 2025. The goal is to stop unplanned flickers and frequent outages in the city.

At a substation launch in Tse-Addo on May 5, ECG’s Accra Sub-Transmission Manager, Engineer Francis Kofi Atsyatsya, said the upgrades are part of ECG’s 2025 roadmap.
These plans were already in motion before the Energy Ministry introduced performance benchmarks. “We’re confident that by year-end, we’ll resolve most power issues, including outages and low voltage,” he said.
He added that the Tse-Addo substation is part of a larger transformer upgrade in Accra and the Volta Region.
The project targets six key areas: Lashibi, Batsona, Teshie, Nungua, Adenta, Ridge, and Denu. “Tse-Addo depends on the Trade Fair substation. But with rapid growth and many new high-rises, the area faces regular outages,” Atsyatsya explained.
To fix this, ECG moved a mobile substation from Agbogba to Tse-Addo. This helps shorten long transmission lines, which had caused voltage drops.
The mobile substation, used earlier at Agbogba, will now stabilize power in Tse-Addo. “We’ll complete the first phase in one week. The full project will take six weeks,” he said.
