The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency. This decision follows disputes over the validity of results from the December 7, 2024, general election.
In a statement dated July 2 and signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC explained that the decision was taken after a meeting with representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on July 1.
The dispute centers on the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations. The NDC argued these documents, allegedly supplied by the NPP, were not sufficiently verified and pushed for a complete rerun in all 37 stations. In contrast, the NPP claimed only three polling station results remained outstanding and insisted the scanned documents had been confirmed by NDC agents during collation.
The EC clarified that the original Pink Sheets were destroyed during a chaotic incident in which political supporters stormed the collation center. As a result, scanned versions were used.
After reviewing the matter, the Commission determined that 19 polling stations had scanned results that were not verified by Presiding Officers, despite agent approval. These will undergo a rerun. The remaining 18 scanned results had full verification and will stand.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025. The EC has assured the public of a transparent and credible process, with the Ghana Police Service tasked to maintain peace and order throughout the exercise.
