A brave taxi driver has foiled a robbery attempt after knocking down two suspected armed robbers who had attacked a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Darkuman in Accra.
The incident occurred when three suspected robbers allegedly attacked the vendor and made away with a cash amount of GH¢7,700. As the suspects attempted to flee the scene, a passing driver who witnessed the attack reportedly rammed his vehicle into two of the robbers, bringing them down.
One of the suspects, however, managed to escape during the confusion. The remaining suspect was overpowered and subjected to severe beatings by an angry mob before police arrived at the scene.
Eyewitnesses say the timely intervention of the driver prevented the suspects from successfully escaping with the stolen money. The MoMo vendor is said to be in stable condition.
Police have since taken control of the situation and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Residents of the area have praised the courage of the driver but have also called on authorities to intensify patrols to curb the rising cases of attacks on mobile money vendors.
