The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Dr. Adrian Alter as its new Resident Representative to Ghana, effective September 2, 2025.
Dr. Alter will replace Dr. Leandro Medina, who concludes his three-year tenure in August. Medina played a pivotal role in supporting Ghana’s US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, which remains central to the country’s macroeconomic recovery.
Currently a member of the IMF mission team overseeing Ghana’s ECF programme, Dr. Alter brings more than ten years of global experience in macroeconomics. His expertise covers monetary policy, financial stability, sovereign debt restructuring, and inflation control.
He has previously contributed to IMF engagements in Tunisia, Serbia, and Ghana, and is expected in Accra by August to ensure a smooth transition.
As Resident Representative, Dr. Alter will coordinate IMF programme activities in Ghana. His responsibilities include engaging with key institutions such as the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana, monitoring policy performance, and collaborating with civil society and other stakeholders.
