Divine Kporha, Volta and Oti Regional Director of HeFRA

Award winning nurse and youth activist, Mr. Divine Kporha has been appointed the Regional Director for Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) for Volta and Oti Regions of Ghana.

Young and energetic Kporha was adjudged the National Best Nurse and Midwife in the year 2023 by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

He was awarded for his volunteerism and philanthropic works which contributed to improving health services for neonates at the Ketu South Hospital among others.

Mr Kporha also constructed a 10-seater water closet lavatory for persons who have suffered leprosy and also helped solve open defecation in the community, as well as constructing a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The facilities were provided from his own resources, with the support of others.

His commitment to enhancing neonatal care has also led to securing 42,000 Australian dollars from the Australian High Commission through a Mental Health and Wellbeing Foundation to construct the neonatal intensive care unit.

Divine Kporha is a graduate of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, (UHAS) who began his nursing profession about 6 years ago.

The 31year-old Divine Kporha is thus going to lead HeFRA, one of the very important state regulatory institutions in the two regions – a sign of President John Mahama’s firm believe in youth participation in governance.

HeFRA stands for the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency in Ghana, an entity established by law (Act 829, 2011) under the Ministry of Health to license, inspect, monitor, and ensure quality and safety standards for all public and private healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, labs, and care homes, enforcing its motto, “no license no operation”. They conduct inspections for safety, personnel, and equipment, and can shut down unlicensed or non-compliant facilities, like the Guinness Ghana Clinic closure in 2025.
